About Us

Dartmouth Swimming Club was relaunched in 2021 following a 20-year hiatus. The original club dates back to the 19th century, when juniors trained in the boat float and seniors swam from Castle Cove to the Higher Ferry. Now Based at Dartmouth Indoor Pool.

Dartmouth Swimming Club is dedicated to fostering a love for swimming from age 5 right up to adults. We provide expert coaching for swimmers aiming to excel in galas, develop their skills in the pool and in open water or swimming for fun and fitness. Our club values teamwork, discipline and personal growth. We provide a friendly atmosphere and access to excellent equipment such as dive blocks and anti wave lane ropes. Whether pursuing medals and personal bests or mastering your strokes or triathlon training, our club is here to help. 
 
We provide a fun Saturday morning session for age 5 and up
A junior session for approx level 7 and above
An adult session swimming 1600m - 2k in an hour
A Rookies lifeguard course on a Monday night 
 
We are a Swim England affiliated club with a Swim England Senior Head Coach, a Level 2 Open Water Coach, a Level 1 Coach, and a Trainee Level 1 Teacher. We have opportunities for anyone wanting to become a Coach or a Young Volunteers (age 15) to develop their coaching skills and be mentored by our experienced coaching staff. 

DSC Aims and Objectives:-

Skill Development and Technique Improvement
Support swimmers in developing proper techniques, improving speed, and building strength. This goal ensures that all swimmers—from beginners to advanced—enhance their abilities in the water.

Physical Fitness and Well-being
Encourage overall fitness, health, and well-being. Swimming is excellent for cardiovascular health, strength, and flexibility, so promoting these benefits can help members stay physically active and healthy.

Teamwork and Sportsmanship
Cultivate a positive environment where teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship are central. This helps build camaraderie and respect among swimmers and with other clubs.

Community Engagement
This goal promotes the club's role in promoting swimming as a valuable community activity to include water safety.

Enjoyment and Personal Growth

Help members find joy in swimming and build confidence, resilience, and goal-setting skills. This encourages long-term participation and helps swimmers of all ages and levels grow both in and out of the pool.

Steps needed to achieve its goals 

Develop Skill-based Groups

Organise members into groups (beginner, intermediate, advanced) based on skill levels, allowing tailored coaching for each group.

Weekly Training Schedule

Establish a consistent training schedule that includes warm up, drills, relays, specific strokes, starts, turns and fun.

Tracking Progress

Track progress by doing time trials such as T15 and T20 and racenights to monitor and review swimmer’s development.

Awards and Recognition

Celebrate achievements with an awards night and encourage swimmers to reach milestones through recognition.

Water Safety

Offer water safety and drowning prevention sessions such as Rookies and promoting this plus swimming techniques to a younger audience to ensure a feed to the main club.

Fundraising

Host fundraising events that involve the community and provide social value but also keeping costs down for our members.
